The Three Muses - Ancestor!

As most of you know, I'm usually kind of short when it comes to words, but I'll give it a try.
This is a picture of my grandmother (probably in her early 20's). She was born in Cernauti, Romania (now called Chernivtsi, Ukraine). She immigrated to Canada, with her parents, when she was five years old. She married at the age of 16, in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan and had 11 children. My mother is the second youngest of her children.

  3. Thank you for sharing this photo of your grandmother. She looks capable, as she would have had to be to marry at 16 and have 11 children! We are such wimps compared to these strong women!

  7. Yvonne, how lucky you are to have such a wonderful photo of your grandmother. She looks as if she really means business!! She would have had to be tough to cope with 11 children and probably a hard, pioneering life. I am so enjoying the stories behind the "ancestors". Thanks so much for sharing your story with us.

  9. Excellent, Yvonne. She was a good looking lady. A popular hair style I think...my paternal grandmother had a similar style with braids wound up behind her head. Almost forgot that Romania was now part of the Ukraine...things sure change.

  11. Great picture, and good to hear the story behind it. I have a lot of friends here whose ancestors came from the same town! It was a centre for art and literature, and many famous writers came from there!

  14. Yvonne, thank you for sharing this picture of your Grandmother and a little of her life story. And what an interesting life she had, born in Europe, brought up in Canada AND bringing 11 children into the world. They don't make woman like that these days.
