(The Victoria Cross is topical here in Australia at the moment as a young soldier was recently awarded that great honour for bravery in Afghanistan. For those who don't know about the Victoria Cross, it is the highest military award for bravery in the UK, Canada, Australia and NZ and it is awarded rarely).
